Every great American city has a nightclub that’s locally favored and almost never on Main Street. This “out of the way” spot might be revered by both locals and anyone “outside of the know” who discovers it after venturing on a friend’s advice or simply investigating the promise of an illuminated sign at the end of an unmarked alley.
Perfectly named for its canal way entrance (tucked behind the Blue Taleh), Lowell’s newest edition is appropriate given its ground floor location in the old Lowell Sun Building -a room once dedicated to reporters cranking out the news of the day (both for the front and backpage of the paper). Jazz, blues, comedy, low-lighting, and strong drinks make the Backpage the new “off the beaten path” destination for anyone seeking refuge from the modern day invasion of nuclear-powered jukebox sound systems and intolerable drinking behavior. So, spread the word. Just take your time doing it though.
